The poor tom cat stretched his legs, dragging his lean body across the water. It was overwhelming being in the water. The sound of drums pounded in his ears, heart throbbed with anxiety, yet excitement filled his body. It was his time to shine and demonstrate that he was like the rest of the Riverclans cat-- no, better then the rest. His eyes sparked with golden fire in them as the sun rays peeked through thin layers of fluffy clouds. The cool breeze tickled the back of his ears. Ripplepaw lowered his jaw, gulping a slight amount of water as he attempted to gasp for air. He coughed and sneezed, ridding of the extra water that was caught in his lungs. If only he was a fish, only to be caught prey by some other predator.
What a shame, thought Ripplepaw, aware of his awkward paddling, twisting and squirming. His tail flailed around, attempting to balance himself. It took a few to get the swimming down, but he got it, slightly. His head was now above the surface. This time he felt much confident then before, yet a tugging feeling inside him kept pushing him back. In a way of calming his nerves, he tried to search for Mothpaw. She was also following their leader's order. A wave of relief washed over him, he was not alone and unwillingly let out a short cackle. For a moment, he found the situation a bit amusing.
His ears perked up, aware of his mentors activity. He was now joining them in the swim. Even with the fear poking at Ripplepaw, he couldn't help but feel delighted to see him in the water with then. The cat was caught off guard by Mothpaw's sudden actions. The she-cat had dipped her head into the water, in order to dive in, the water swallowed Mothpaw, tail flail in the air. This made Ripplepaw chuckled, feeling a bit better about his previous embarrassment.
" Okay so now that your paws are wet. Lets try a small exercise that should greatly improve your movement in the water." Ripplepaw gulped, a bit uneasy about the exercise. For Starclan's sake, he just began to get his paws wet and it was cause he was pushed to do so in the moment. The tom-cat listened carefully, a focused expression was pressed against his face. " You must dive down and retrieve as many snail shells as you can, but you can only get one at a time. After you get one you have to lay them out in separate piles on the shore." "Uh..." was all the apprentice could say. Snail shells? At the bottom of the river? His heart slumped into his stomach, a sick feeling twisted into his gut and if he was on land he'd have gagged from the nauseous feeling.
"Easy as prey...." mumbled the tomcat, breathing in the sweet refreshing oxygen and tasting it before he dove in. Without giving another thought, he bent his torso, dipping his head in and pushing his body in, leaving a giant brusque ripple behind him. It was difficult to control his body through the new atmosphere. It was as though there was no force to keep him steady on the ground. A couple of fishes rounded him, watching with amused dark eyes as he tried to make his way towards the rivers floor. Hopefully, he'd succeed this task and avoid from drowning.
