Hailstar
The late nights out hunting had cost precious energy lately for Hailstar. It was getting harder and harder to feed the clan, and he was growing restless. The burden of multiple responsibilities weighed him down considerably. First as leader of the clan, and secondly as a mentor to Ripplepaw. Not a very diligent mentor thus far, as he felt he barely knew his apprentice, and did not like the lack of incentive he was showing in training him. Surely he wondered if Ripplepaw even liked him as a mentor, since he was always heading out of camp without him lately. The grey stripped tom grimaced, his thoughts not pleasant, nor had they been for quite some time now. He had defiantly had enough of the clan suffering, Riverclan was due for some repentance, something to take the edge off the pain and losses they had endured because they had no choice to.
His thoughts are what had carried him out to the woodlands, the twoleg place and the border with shadowclan just on the other side of the wooded border. Shadowclan seemed more willing to cooperate at the gathering, maybe he would have to try and talk more with Icestar. Sighing, he tried to focus on the real reason he had ventured out this night. It wasn't to brood over his thoughts, no tonight he would be training his apprentice for a change. Ripplepaw needed to grow stronger, that was the way survival worked, and it was his job to see to it. He would not fail the younger tom, and would work him hard to catch up for lost time. Hailstar would never forgive himself if something were to happen to his apprentice because of his lack of mentoring. It was in the woods tonight that he would meet him and start a much needed lesson, but he realized that Ripplepaw was late, and he couldn't help feeling annoyed at his tardiness. [/size]

The drumming of paws echoed through, shaking the earth beneath, as a spotted tom cat raced to his destination. An annoyed look plaster on his face. Ripplepaw was sure his mentor was growing thin with patience. But who could blame him? Ripplepaw had been blocked by one of his acquaintance back at his den, being spoken to about whatever nonsense he had to update the apprentice about. He could feel Hailstars hard stare from a few feet away and hoped he could forgive his tardiness, which he knew would never happen. It had been quite sometime since they met, as mentor and apprentice and wondered what his leader had in store for him. The young tom cat approached his leader, head bowed apologetic, and slight sign of shame, "Hailstar..." he called, bowing his head, showing respect and acknowledgement. "I... apologize for being late...." he mew softly, avoiding any excuses, mother always taught him never to use excuses to escape from known punishment. His tail was lowered, snapping to the side as he sat before his grey striped mentor.

Looking down at the bundle of fur before him, Hailstar was intently showing his annoyance at the lateness of Ripplepaw. Whether or not they had been training a lot lately, the young tom should have still respected him enough as a leader if not as his mentor, to show up on time. He wondered if he would have to escort him from camp now all the time and dismiss that trust for him to walk alone to training sessions, as that would be a proper punishment. It did not go unnoticed that his apprentice nodded in respect and apologized, however its not like it excused anything. Hailstar was annoyed that the training was to start out like this, so unprofessional, he had a lot of expectations for Ripplepaw, and he intended to see him become a fit and competent warrior. How was he to do that at this rate was beyond him. " So no reason as to why you have been late tonight then hmm?" Flicking his tail angrily he continued. " I know that we have had fewer training sessions lately, but I have made sure that other warriors were monitoring your progress in the meantime. I have not forgotten the need for you to learn, a need made more apparent to me with your display of lateness." Sighing he figured that if this was the least of his worries with Ripplepaw then it would be a miracle. Apprentices could get into all sorts of trouble, and he hoped that it would not be the case here.
His dark grey tabby stripped and spotted pelt shone in the moonlight, his hazel eyes reflecting his mood against the backdrop of the night sky. Having decided on a method of training, he continued, his focus now on his apprentice. He would deal with the tardiness based on the rest of his performance, though Ripplepaw wouldn't be told that." Right, well show me your hunting crouch, and your stalking techniques." It was true Riverclanners hunted fish, but the occasional frog, or mouse and bird were needed as well, and he had to make sure Ripplepaw could preform these tasks well and without a great deal of fault.

Ripplestorm
The young tom cat stared up at the obviously irritated mentor. Pure frustration emitted from the powerful leader, all directed towards Ripplestorm. More than likely, it was due to his tardiness. All he was able to do was to take the silent anger without complaints. His pelt ruffled up a bit, he was attempting to straighten his fur back but decided not to.
Instead, he kneaded the earth beneath him to ease the stress upon him and breathe out deep. He was cut off short by his mentor, “So no reason as to why you have been late tonight then hmm?" Hailstar spoke, his voice stern and powerful. Ripplestorm could not help but lower his head back down, replying with a simple shake of his head. What was he supposed to say? That one of his comrades interrupted him on his way here? He was better off saving his breath before he had none. He shifted his weight to the right side and back to the other, uneasily. Hailstar continued, “I know that we have had fewer training sessions lately, but I have made sure that other warriors were monitoring your progress in the meantime. I have not forgotten the need for you to learn, a need made more apparent to me with your display of lateness." That last part really cut through his chest like sharp talons. The young tom cat casually glanced down to his chest, as though he expected blood to pour down. This was not a smooth way to start his training, and more with the leader of his clan. Great job mouse brain..... Ripplestorm through to himself as his eyes linked with his leader olive ones. "......." he stood silent, not taking the risk of worsening the situation. His ears laid flat upon his head, looking like a scolded kit.
Ripplestorm's muscles unclenched as Hailstar changed the topic, of course, not before he caught that hint of punishment in his leader’s eyes. Hailstar commanded the young apprentice to show off what skill he had of stalking. The young tom cat nodded, following his order. His body lowered a bit closer than usual to the land; his soft belly grazed the soil as he crouched down. There he began to "stalk" raising his leg awkwardly before him. His paws were not quite successfully silent and his tail rose above his head like a snake about to strike. His belly added to the various silent noises that Ripplestorm was creating; his first attempt to stalk equaling to fox-dung, pretty stinky.
